Roblox runs a conventional loop with an unusually concentrated question set. The phone screen (店面/电面) is a single coding problem, and two questions dominate it: a sliding-window rate limiter reported 29 times and a most-frequent call-path problem reported 22 — together a third of everything in this corpus. Both arrive as graded parts submitted one at a time, and both have a follow-up that is where candidates lose the round rather than the base problem. The onsite (昂赛/VO) adds system design, most often like/unlike at scale, delayed payments, or game matching, plus a project deep dive. Behavioral is not one round but a ladder — an HR screen of about three questions, one or two HM rounds, and at director or VP level a checklist-style round where tenure and proactive decision-making get scrutinised; reports describe candidates rejected at hiring committee specifically for short job tenures. There is also a distinct HackerRank OA with a multi-part coding section and a 20-minute multiple-choice behavioral section.

The most-reported Roblox question and the one the phone screen draws most often. It arrives as graded parts submitted one at a time, and the base sliding window is not where candidates lose it — the second part is. Two separate reports describe passing every visible test and failing a hidden one, both for the same reason: recording requests that were DENIED into the window. The prompt's own example rules that out, which is why it is the likeliest hidden case.
The other question that dominates the screen. Three parts: the most frequent call path, then a tie broken by stack depth, then the same result per thread id. The multi-thread part reads like a concurrency problem and is not one — the logs simply carry a thread id and grouping is all that is asked. Candidates who write real threading spend the remaining time on the wrong thing.
The most-reported Roblox design round, and the reports agree on what separates a pass from a rejection: concreteness. One candidate with otherwise positive feedback was rejected for not naming the Redis key and the read and write queries. Raising the hot-item problem before being asked is described as what strong candidates do.
- •Clarifying the exact window or tie-break convention before writing code — the reported prompts are ambiguous on both, and the two readings give different answers.
- •Finishing the first coding part fast. Reports are consistent that time is short and the later parts carry the signal.
- •Naming Redis keys and DB queries concretely in system design instead of staying at box-and-arrow level.
- •Driving the system design round rather than waiting for prompts, and raising the hot-item problem unasked.
- •A structured STAR narrative for the proudest project, with a prepared answer for job changes and short tenures.
- •Failing the hidden test case on the rate limiter's second part — two separate reports pass the visible tests and fail a hidden one.
- •Writing real concurrency for the call-path multi-thread follow-up, when the logs merely carry a thread_id and grouping is all that is asked.
- •Staying high-level in system design; one candidate with otherwise positive feedback was rejected for not describing the Redis key and the read/write query.
- •A generic “why Roblox” answer with no tie to a specific product, mission or team.
