Uber Interview Questions

Reconstructed from 302 verified candidate reports across 83 questions. Oct 2025 – Oct 2026.

This page is a live view of every Uber interview question AceOffer has indexed — pulled from candidate reports, not invented from job descriptions or one founder’s memory. Every question shows how many times it’s been reported and when it was last seen. The catalog gets a refresh pass every month.

The Uber loop, from candidate reports

Reported Uber software engineering loops are mostly algorithm and object-oriented coding rounds plus system design. Some candidates start with an online assessment of algorithm problems; the most reported are minimum edge reversals on a tree and a jump game with prime steps ending in 3. The phone screen is a coding round, often with time on a past project, and the problem is most often the first unique number in a stream, robots matching distances to the nearest blockers, or the longest subarray within an absolute difference limit. Onsite coding mixes LeetCode-style problems, such as Number of Islands with lands added over time and Meeting Rooms II, with object-oriented design such as a parking lot and a meeting scheduler over a fixed list of rooms. System design rounds often center on Uber and Uber Eats products: the Uber Eats shopping cart, a driver heatmap, nearby restaurants and ride hailing. Many loops include a hiring-manager round of about 75 minutes that pairs behavioral questions with a project deep dive, where a diagram is expected and some candidates bring slides. ML Engineer loops add ML coding rounds, such as linear and logistic regression from scratch.

What does Uber ask in each interview round?

Uber interviews span 7 distinct round types, broken down below. Counts reflect distinct questions per round, not number of times asked. Frequencies on individual question cards show how many candidates reported getting that specific question.

LeetCode-style algorithms (Number of Islands I and II, Meeting Rooms II, a quad tree, squares of a sorted array) and object-oriented design (a parking lot, a meeting scheduler, an Uber Eats cart and pricing engine).
26 questions

A coding screen: the first unique number in a stream, robots matching distances to the nearest blockers, the longest subarray within a limit, a hit counter, customer revenue with referrals, and Union-Find over ride logs.
25 questions

Algorithm problems: minimum edge reversals on a tree, a jump game with prime steps ending in 3, palindrome-rearrangeable paths in a tree, pipeline throughput under a scaling budget, and others, often reported under different names.
14 questions

Mostly Uber and Uber Eats products: the Uber Eats cart, a driver heatmap, nearby restaurants, ride hailing and nearby drivers, plus a messenger, stock price alerts, popular items, Uber Eats search and a distributed file system.
10 questions

Most-reported: Design the Uber Eats Shopping Cart (7 reports)
ML coding rounds (linear and logistic regression from scratch, minimising a convex black-box function, bigram text generation, shuttle pickup locations, multi-head self-attention) and an ML system design for fraud detection.
6 questions

Behavioral and hiring-manager questions: conflict, mentoring juniors, failure, ownership, why Uber and feedback you disagreed with, and from managers a poor performer and a cross-functional disagreement.
1 question

Most-reported: Behavioral and Hiring Manager Questions (30 reports)
A project deep dive of about 75 minutes on your past work, with a diagram expected and slides recommended by some candidates; one staff loop reports Scope & Impact and Architecture rounds, and one senior loop wove behavioral questions into the deep dive.

What passing candidates do
  • •Knowing Union-Find well. Two reports say interviewers expected it on the islands questions, even where DFS would work.
  • •Planning for the scale follow-up. First Unique Number and the hit counter are followed by questions on very large input, a million writes per second, locks and when to clear stale data.
  • •Moving past brute force. The robot blocker screen is followed by precomputing distances in all four directions, and in one onsite the longest-subarray problem was pushed from brute force to O(n log n) and then O(n).
  • •Writing runnable object-oriented code. One parking lot report asks for fully runnable code, with data structure choices you can defend.
Where candidates lose points
  • •Recursive DFS on the tree OAs. Reports on the edge reversal and palindrome paths problems say the recursion depth fails, so traverse iteratively.
  • •Brute force on the OA. On the ball-absorbing problem, candidates who did not group by row and by column timed out on hidden cases.
  • •Coding before the statement is pinned down. Several OA problems are reported under different names and wordings, so check direction, indexing and the expected output first.
  • •Assuming the LeetCode version. The reported Edge Length Limited Paths condition differs from the LeetCode one, and the squares problem is reported both as kth largest and kth smallest.
